Langtang - Helambu Trek

The Helambu Trek is a 6 days trek starts from Sundarijal at the end of Kathmandu valley. It makes a loop through the Sherpa populated Region to the north east at Kathmandu. We can say this trek is mostly fallowed by many villages. There are few point on the trail from where we can view clear range of Ganesh Himal, Langtang 7234 meters, Dorje Lakpa 6966 meters, Gosaikunda 8013 meters, Chhaba Bhamare 5970 meters.

06 Days
Difficulty   Moderate
Maximum Altitude:2,610m
DAY 01
Drive to sundarijail and start trek and night at Chisapani (2300m): Drive 1 hour, Trek: 4 hours.
After breakfast drive about an hour to sundarijal then trail starts off up concrete steps beside the pipeline which brings drinking water down to the Kathmandu valley. The trail continues to climb but less steeply, through chisopani then drops down to pati vhanjyang at 1770 meters. Chisopani is rather like a grubby little truck stop without trucks but the Mountain View can be seen very fine.
DAY 02 Chisapani to Kutumsang (2446m): 7 hours.
The trail rises and falls through chipling at 2170 meters then over 2470 meters pass and down past a large chorten to the village of gul Bhanjyang which is the entry at the Langtang national park. The trail climb again to rich 2620 meters pass before descending along the rocky route to Khutumsang at 2470 meters.
DAY 03 Kutumsang to Tharepati (2446m): 7 hours.
The trail follows a ridge line with view of the Langtang and gosaikunda peaks through spossery populated forests to magen Goth with an army check post before finally the therepati pass at 3490 meters. The trail to Gosaikunda branches off north-west from there. From the pass the trail turns east and descends rapidly down a ravine to each the pretty sherpa village of malemchigaon at 2530 meters. You can enjoy a very brightly painted gompa.
DAY 04 Tharepati to Tarkeghyang (2560m): 6 hours.
From Malemchigaon the trail continues to drop, crossing the malemchi khola by a bridge at 1890 meters and then making the long climb up the other side of the valley to Tarke gyang at 2743 meters. This is the largest village in Helambu and the prosperous sherpa who live here specialize, amongst other thing in turning out instant antiques for gullible trekkers.
DAY 05 Tarkeghyang to Sermathang (2,610m): 3/4 hours.
From Tarke gyang there is a very pleasant rout on the loop trek the wide and well used trail descends through rhododendron forest and past Buddhist chortens and mani walls to kakani at 2070 meters and thimbu at 1580 meters you have left the sherpa highlanders and entered the warmer lowland areas where rice is grown. Kiul is at a lower altitude then kathmandu.
DAY 06 Sermathang to Memalchi Pul. 3/4 hrs trek/ 3 hr drive.

The trail descends along a river crossing it on the second suspension bridge at just 1190 meters then joining a road way at Mahenkal and following it to taramarrang at 940 meters. Here the trail leaves the road and climbs steeply to battache and then Thakani on the ridge top at 4800 meters. From here the trail follows the ridge to pati Bhanjyang where the helambu circuit completed.

DAY 07 Memalchi Pul to Kathmandu by drive.
